Single filer, paid biweekly, standard W-4, no pre-tax deductions.
Louisiana withholds a flat 3.09% of wages for 2026 after a deduction of $12,875 for single filers or $25,750 for married filing jointly and head of household, with no personal or dependent exemptions. Nothing else comes out for the state: no local income taxes and no employee payroll premiums. Figures follow IRS Publication 15-T and the Louisiana Department of Revenue R-1306 withholding tables and formulas effective January 1, 2026.
How Louisiana paycheck taxes work
Four tax lines come out of a Louisiana paycheck: federal income tax, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500), Medicare (1.45%), and Louisiana state withholding. No parish or city in Louisiana taxes wages, and the state takes no disability, paid-leave, or unemployment deduction from employees. Anything else on your stub is your own election: 401(k), health premiums, HSA, and similar benefits.
The R-1306 formula annualizes your pay, subtracts the deduction for Block A of your Form L-4 ($12,875 for single or married filing separately; $25,750 for married filing jointly, surviving spouse, or head of household; $0 if Block A is 0), and multiplies the rest by 3.09%. The result divides back into your pay periods. This calculator applies the deduction for the filing status you choose, so an employee whose L-4 shows 0 in Block A will see a little more withheld on their stub than here.
The statutory income tax rate is 3%. The Department of Revenue built the withholding tables at 3.09% on purpose, a 0.09-point cushion that reduces the chance of a balance due when you file; anything withheld above your actual tax comes back as a refund. Act 11 of 2024 removed personal and dependent exemptions from the formula, so dependents no longer change Louisiana withholding and the calculator shows no exemption field for Louisiana.
For 2026 the deductions were indexed to inflation for the first time, rising from $12,500 to $12,875 and from $25,000 to $25,750, so Louisiana withholding on the same pay is slightly lower than in 2025. The 3% rate and 3.09% withholding rate are unchanged. This site's bonus calculator applies 3.09% to Louisiana bonuses alongside the 22% federal flat rate. Louisiana has no reciprocity agreements with other states. Daily pay periods are outside this calculator.

Louisiana paycheck FAQ
How much is taken out of a paycheck in Louisiana?
Federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2%, Medicare at 1.45%, and Louisiana withholding at a flat 3.09% of annualized wages after the $12,875 or $25,750 L-4 deduction. There is no local income tax and no state payroll premium anywhere in Louisiana. The quick answer above shows the result for a single filer on $60,000 paid biweekly, and the calculator recomputes it for your pay, filing status, and pre-tax deductions.
What is the Louisiana income tax rate for 2026?
A flat 3% on Louisiana taxable income for every filing status under the Act 11 (2024) reform. Paycheck withholding uses 3.09% under the Department of Revenue's R-1306 formula, applied after a $12,875 deduction for single filers or $25,750 for joint filers and heads of household. There are no personal or dependent exemptions in the 2026 formula, so filing status and pre-tax deductions are the only things that move the state line.
Why does Louisiana withhold 3.09% when the tax rate is 3%?
The Department of Revenue set the withholding tables 0.09 points above the statutory rate as a cushion, so fewer people owe a balance when they file their Louisiana return. Revenue Information Bulletin 25-012 describes the 3% flat rate and the 0.09% cushion. Whatever is withheld above your actual 3% tax comes back as a refund. This calculator uses 3.09%, matching what your employer withholds.
How much is the Louisiana L-4 deduction in 2026?
$12,875 if you claim single or married filing separately in Block A of Form L-4, and $25,750 if you claim married filing jointly, surviving spouse, or head of household. If Block A is 0, no deduction applies and the full 3.09% is withheld on every dollar. The calculator uses the deduction for the filing status you select; there is no separate allowance count to enter for Louisiana.
Can I claim dependents on my Louisiana L-4 to lower withholding?
No. Act 11 of 2024 removed personal and dependent exemptions from the Louisiana withholding formula, so the only reduction is the Block A deduction of $12,875 or $25,750. Dependents still matter on your federal W-4, where Step 3 credits lower federal withholding. That is why this calculator has a federal dependents field and no Louisiana exemption field.
What changed in Louisiana paycheck withholding for 2026?
The L-4 deductions were indexed to inflation for the first time, rising from $12,500 to $12,875 for single filers and from $25,000 to $25,750 for joint filers and heads of household, under the R-1306 tables effective January 1, 2026. The 3% tax rate and the 3.09% withholding rate did not change. On the same salary, slightly less Louisiana tax comes out of each 2026 paycheck than in 2025.
