How Idaho paycheck taxes work
Four tax lines come out of an Idaho paycheck: federal income tax, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500), Medicare (1.45%), and Idaho state withholding. No Idaho city or county taxes wages, and the state has no disability, paid-leave, or long-term care premium. Anything else on your stub is your own election: 401(k), health premiums, HSA, and similar benefits.
The percentage computation method annualizes your pay, subtracts a zero bracket, and withholds 5.3% of the rest. The zero bracket matches the federal standard deduction: $16,100 if you checked box A (single or head of household) on Form ID W-4, $32,200 for box B (married), and $16,100 again for box C, which married employees check to withhold at the single amount when both spouses work. This calculator applies $16,100 to single and head of household and $32,200 to married filing jointly.
Until July 2026 Idaho also subtracted $3,868 a year for each allowance, tied to the Idaho Child Tax Credit. That credit sunset under Idaho Code 63-3029L, so the tables issued July 23, 2026 set the allowance to $0 and raised the zero bracket from $15,000 to $16,100 (single) and from $30,000 to $32,200 (married). Employers apply the new tables to wages paid after July 31, 2026, with no catch-up on earlier paychecks. Allowances on Form ID W-4 no longer change withholding; only the status box and extra dollar amount do.
Bonuses paid separately are withheld at a flat 5.3%, which this site's bonus calculator applies for Idaho. Idaho has no reciprocity agreements, so nonresidents are withheld on wages earned in Idaho. On the return side, Idaho's flat 5.3% applies to taxable income that starts from federal taxable income, using the federal standard deduction of $16,100 single, $32,200 married filing jointly, or $24,150 head of household; withholding uses $16,100 for head of household, so that status prepays on $8,050 more than the return will tax.

Idaho paycheck FAQ
How much is taken out of a paycheck in Idaho?
Federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2%, Medicare at 1.45%, and Idaho withholding at a flat 5.3% of annualized wages above $16,100 (single or head of household) or $32,200 (married). There is no local income tax and no state payroll premium anywhere in Idaho. The quick answer above shows the result for a single filer on $60,000, and the calculator recomputes it for your pay and filing status.
What is the Idaho income tax rate for 2026?
A flat 5.3% of Idaho taxable income for every filing status. Paycheck withholding applies the same 5.3% to wages above a zero bracket of $16,100 or $32,200 under the July 23, 2026 tables. Some calculators still show an older, higher Idaho rate or the retired $3,868 per-child allowance; the Tax Commission's current tables use neither, and this page follows them.
Why did my Idaho withholding go up in August 2026?
The tables effective for wages paid after July 31, 2026 dropped the $3,868 per-allowance subtraction to $0 because the Idaho Child Tax Credit sunset. A parent who claimed two allowances lost $7,736 of zero-bracket wages, about $410 a year at 5.3%, or $15.77 per biweekly paycheck. The same tables raised the base zero bracket from $15,000 to $16,100 (single) and $30,000 to $32,200 (married), so employees with no allowances saw a small decrease. Earlier 2026 paychecks stay as paid.
Do allowances on Form ID W-4 still reduce Idaho withholding?
No. Since the July 23, 2026 tables the allowance amount is $0, so the number of allowances on your Form ID W-4 has no effect on the state line. What still matters is the filing status box (A single or head of household at $16,100, B married at $32,200, C married withholding at the single $16,100) and any extra dollar amount you ask to have withheld. Credits you qualify for are claimed on your Idaho return.
How are bonuses taxed in Idaho?
A bonus paid separately from regular wages is withheld at 22% federal (37% above $1,000,000), 6.2% Social Security up to $184,500, 1.45% Medicare, and a flat 5.3% for Idaho. This site's bonus calculator uses 5.3% for Idaho. When a bonus is combined with a regular paycheck, the ordinary percentage method applies to the total, zero bracket included.
