Single filer, paid biweekly, standard W-4, no pre-tax deductions.

Arkansas withholds from 2% to 3.7% for 2026 after a $2,470 standard deduction, minus a $29 credit per AR4EC exemption; the top rate fell from 3.9% to 3.7% in the May 2026 special session, retroactive to January 1, 2026. Nothing else comes out for the state: no local income taxes and no employee payroll premiums. Figures follow IRS Publication 15-T and the Arkansas DFA withholding formula revised May 29, 2026.

How Arkansas paycheck taxes work

Four tax lines come out of an Arkansas paycheck: federal income tax, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500), Medicare (1.45%), and Arkansas state withholding. No Arkansas city or county taxes wages, and the state has no disability, paid-leave, or unemployment deduction on the employee side. Anything else on your stub is your own election: 401(k), health premiums, HSA, and similar benefits.

The DFA formula subtracts the $2,470 standard deduction from annual wages, then applies 0% on the first $5,600, 2% from $5,600, 3% from $11,200, 3.4% from $16,000, and 3.7% from $26,400. Between $94,701 and $97,600 a bracket adjustment phases out the benefit of the lower rates, so above $97,600 nearly all taxable income is taxed at 3.7%. The same schedule applies to every filing status. Finally, $29 comes off the annual tax for each AR4EC exemption; enter yourself and your spouse in Arkansas exemptions and children in Dependents.

Acts 1 and 2 of the May 2026 special session cut the top rate from 3.9% to 3.7%, retroactive to January 1, 2026, and the DFA posted the revised withholding formula on May 29, 2026. Wages withheld under the 3.9% formula earlier in the year come back as a larger refund or smaller balance due on your 2026 Arkansas return. Separately, the standard deduction rose from $2,410 to $2,470 on January 1. This calculator uses the May 29 formula, so it shows the 3.7% figure.

Bonuses paid separately are withheld at a flat 3.7% for Arkansas alongside the 22% federal flat rate; this site's bonus calculator applies 3.7%. Arkansas has no reciprocity agreements; Texarkana residents are exempt from Arkansas withholding, an exemption this calculator does not model. Employees who qualify for the low-income tax tables on AR4EC line 5 use separate wage tables that are also outside this calculator. The DFA's $100 midrange lookup and whole-dollar rounding can differ from this page by cents.

Arkansas paycheck FAQ

How much is taken out of a paycheck in Arkansas?

Federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2%, Medicare at 1.45%, and Arkansas withholding of 2% to 3.7% on annual wages after the $2,470 standard deduction, less $29 per AR4EC exemption. There is no local income tax and no state payroll premium anywhere in Arkansas. The quick answer above shows a single filer on $60,000 paid biweekly, and the calculator recomputes it for your pay, exemptions, and pre-tax deductions.

What is the Arkansas income tax rate for 2026?

A top rate of 3.7% on net taxable income over $26,400, after Acts 1 and 2 of the May 2026 special session cut it from 3.9% retroactive to January 1, 2026. Below that, the withholding formula applies 0% up to $5,600, then 2%, 3% from $11,200, and 3.4% from $16,000, all after a $2,470 standard deduction. Some calculators still show the earlier rate; the DFA formula revised May 29, 2026 uses 3.7%, and so does this page.

What changed in Arkansas paycheck withholding in May 2026?

The Department of Finance and Administration posted a revised withholding formula on May 29, 2026, to carry out Acts 1 and 2 of the May 2026 special session, which lowered the top individual rate from 3.9% to 3.7% for the whole 2026 tax year. Employers switched to the 3.7% formula from that revision, so Arkansas withholding per paycheck is slightly lower than in the first five months of the year. This calculator uses the revised formula.

Will I get a refund because Arkansas cut its tax rate mid-year?

If your employer withheld at the 3.9% formula for pay dates before the May 29, 2026 revision, that extra amount counts toward your 2026 Arkansas tax, and because the 3.7% rate applies retroactively to January 1, 2026 you get it back as a larger refund or a smaller balance due when you file. This calculator uses the revised 3.7% formula, so its estimate matches paychecks after the switch.

How much is the Arkansas exemption credit on my paycheck?

$29 a year for each exemption claimed on your AR4EC, subtracted from the tax itself after the rates are applied. Enter yourself and your spouse in the Arkansas exemptions field and children in Dependents; the calculator takes $29 off the annual state tax for each and spreads it across your pay periods. Because it is a credit off the tax, its value is the same at every income level.

How are bonuses taxed in Arkansas?

A bonus or commission paid separately from regular wages is withheld at a flat 3.7% for Arkansas, the top rate set by the May 2026 special session, plus the 22% federal flat rate and FICA. When the bonus is combined with your regular paycheck, the normal DFA formula applies to the total. This site's bonus calculator applies the 3.7% Arkansas rate.
